A Brief History of the Filmmakers
Dana and Barry have worked together on numerous short projects. The Trials of Michael Jackson, their first feature, was produced and financed exclusively by the pair.
Can I Explain, a young boy's perception of war, was their first short winner of the Social Awareness Award at New York City's 2004 Vision Fest Film Festival. Starring Jason Gedrick and son Ty, Can I Explain was an official selection in eight film festivals including the Palm Springs International Short Film Festival, Zoinks in Boston, Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Artivist Film Festival, Hollywood, Wine Country Film Festival, Cinema Paradise Film Festival, Honolulu, and the Global Peace Film Festival in Orlando, Florida.
Dana and Barry also produced and forwarded to Governor Grey Davis a PSA (Public Service Announcement) protesting educational funding cuts in the state of California.
The two filmmakers of “The Trials of Michael Jackson”, Dana Gedrick and Barry Shaw, reluctantly found themselves embroiled in the tug of war between the media and the fans. A variety of notable news and entertainment reporters from around the world found the camera turned on them. Michael Jackson’s fans came to show their support for him as well as give their views on the accusations surrounding the super star. Much of the media seemed more interested in exploiting the fans than reporting the situation. The film evolved from the filmmaker’s observations of the interesting dynamics between the media and the fans.
